Summary of Position: | The English, Literature and World Languages department seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Developmental English to teach face-to-face and online courses in developmental writing as well as additional writing, literature, and/or language courses appropriate to qualifications. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment Candidates with additional expertise in any of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: children’s or young adult literature; English Language Arts (K-12) education; rhetorical genre studies; Spanish language. The start date of this position is August 2025. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: | • Teach face-to-face and online courses in developmental writing and other upper- and lower-level writing, literature, and/or language courses, as appropriate to applicant’s qualifications. • Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. • Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (i.e. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). • Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment. • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |
